About Nicholas
Nicholas Manes is a writer and photographer from Lincoln, Nebraska. His first published works occurred in 2012 while working for IANR News at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2013 he began working for distinguished American nature photographer and environmental journalist Michael Forsberg, becoming instantly inspired in the art of storytelling.
Nicholas continued forms of creative expression as he traversed the world of corporate structures and life changes. Finding that creativity has less value in a world of emails, corporate newsletters, and stock photography, Nicholas chose to separate his primary career from his creative endeavors, allowing both to exist and thrive in their own separate worlds. This rift became the origin of Nicholas Manes - Storyteller.
A Moment of Inspiration & Grief
In the spring of 2023, Nicholas's two-year-old son was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type I following a medical emergency, and ultimately the discovery of a large brain tumor. As a means to understand the vast array of emotions and trauma being endured, he began documenting and sharing his experiences during his sons’ journey to recovery, resonating deeply with all that have been exposed to the anguish of cancer.
That story became the origin of his first book NF1 In A Million.
The Art of Storytelling
Everyone has a story to tell. We see hints of this across social media, brief interactions with those we share our lives with, and the rising increase in social isolation. There is immense value in sharing your words, thoughts, and creative expressions in meaningful and impactful ways. This is the basis for Nicholas and his mission to share the stories of those who have yet to find their voice.
The Power of Imagery
To freeze a moment in time, a click of a shutter, a stoic semblance of a place and emotion. Imagery is powerful and often invokes a strong sense of creative inspiration and purpose. Before Nicholas picked up a pen, he first picked up his camera. Through his fostering of appreciation for digital imagery, Nicholas amalgamates the creative expressions of writing and photography to complete a story.
